Through the use of Deep-Fake technology and easily accessible tools such as smartphone applications (ReFace, Momento, Giphy), Tyanna Buie’s recent self-portraits are created through pre-existing Memes and Gifs. Combined with images and texts solely derived from mass-media, they re-imagine the possibility of pop-culture, identity, appropriation, social movements, politics, and authorship.
