COLLABORATION
THIS YEAR’S THEME, Collaboration, asks artists to envision a brighter future through collaboration. Our area of the world, Michiana, is host to individuals, families, and organizations who come together to support one another and create change in our community. We acknowledge through our collaborative efforts, that we don’t get anywhere alone and that we can do greater things together.

OUR 2022 JUROR: TRE GOODHUE is the Adult Programming Specialist for the St. Joe County Public Library. In this capacity, he has worked to create an environment of collaboration by working with a variety of individuals and organizations in the Michiana region in the pursuit of developing targeted and meaningful adult education opportunities across the library’s ten branches.
An Iowa native turned Michigander turned Hoosier, Goodhue’s work prior to his role at SJCPL found him serving in a variety of positions in the field of museum education in institutions across the Midwest ranging from the State Historical Museum of Iowa in Des Moines, IA, Tri-Cities Historical Museum in Grand Haven, MI, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Across all of these roles and locations, the overarching connection has been Goodhue’s devotion to utilizing these institutions as catalysts for creating community and fostering discussion.
This devotion has also found its way into Goodhue’s free time. He has served as a judge for the local & state Iowa High School Speech Association and Michigan National History Day competitions in an effort to help kindle creative passions in student competitors. He was also able to serve his community during the COVID-19 Pandemic by volunteering with the local group Feed The Fight: Kalamazoo, which raised funds to purchase meals from local restaurants to provide to frontline workers.
All in all, Tre is incredibly excited and honored to serve as the Juror for the 2022 Festival of Banners and could not be more excited to see the wonderful works the community has created!
SUBMISSION DETAILS
FORMAT:

dimensions: 4.25 in wide x 10 in high
vertical designs only
The design must be 4.25 inches wide by 10 inches high. Please make design vertical. This format is necessary to print your artwork on the banner. Your design should be considered finished artwork and colored in the manner you intend the larger design to be colored. Simple designs using bold, solid colors are the most effective. Remember, the finished accepted designs will hang on a street light in DTSB, so you want viewers to be able to see the details from 9 -14 feet away.
Entry Fee $8, unless submitting your work as part of a K-12 class. Entries for kids 12 and under are free.
All designs & entry forms must be submitted to the museum digitally using this form no later than 5:00 pm, June 10 2022.
*Please note: not all entries will be accepted. Children should be at least 8 years of age.
*Additionally, designs submitted in the wrong format and/or not responding to the theme will not be accepted.
Entries chosen by the juror will reflect the wide diversity of community participants.
All banners will become the property of SBMA. However, participants can pick up their banners after November 1. Banners will be stored on museum property for 6 months, after which they will be discarded or repurposed.
