An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Every year the South Bend Museum of Art hosts an event called An Ekphrastic Event for Sharing the Muse. We ask people to write a poem in response to a work of art from SBMA’s permanent collection. The poems are published in a chapbook and the poets read their works on the night of the event which will be September 15, 2022.
We invite you to participate! Visit our permanent collection galleries, find a work of art that inspires you and write a poem in response. Email it along with your name and the title of the artwork to bowmanb@southbendart.org by July 22, 2022. All poems will be reviewed and selected poets will be notified by July 29, 2022. There is no age limit so we would love to hear from young writers too.
