Sustainable Bookbinding

Students will learn basic through intermediate bookbinding focusing on two techniques: Western Binding and Japanese Stab Binding. Students will be encouraged to reflect on the intended purpose of the book such as journal, art portfolio, poetry book, sketchbook, etc. in order to conceptually relate the book’s cover and materials to their interests. We will use primarily natural materials such as recycled paper, scrap leather, pressed flowers, and sustainable fibers.
