Join us on Thursday, September 15, 2022 for our annual poetry event!
Earlier this year, an incredibly talented group of poets found a muse among the artworks in the museum that inspired a personal poetic vision of its meaning. We had the honor of publishing some of these poems in our Ekphrastic Chapbook, which will be FREE and available on September 15 at the event.
Bring all your family and friends along for a night full of inspiration, and help us appreciate all the exceptional individuals who gave our artwork voices, as they read their poems in person.
An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning.
The idea for this event was developed by members of the South Bend Museum of Art board of directors as a way to include area writers more directly in the community of art makers here in Michiana and at the SBMA.
