For Families

The SBMA welcomes families to enjoy the galleries and nurture their creative development through hands-on activities and events.

Family Day
is designed for families to explore art and investigate the galleries together! Join us in the studios and galleries for fun, creative activities. Projects are created with process and materials as the focus, snacks are provided, and the galleries are open for families to tour! Admission to the studio and galleries are free during Family Days, unless otherwise specified.

October 6 – Science Fiction Fantasy Mask Making Workshop

Designed to invoke your creativity, inspire critical thinking, and give you permission to let loose, our workshop will allow you to combine our materials with your creative sensibilities! Enjoy the ambiance of a science fiction and fantasy inspired soundtrack and view a curated collection of images and quotes that will take you to another realm. Anything is possible!

October 13 – Family Crest Workshop

Since images of science fiction and fantasy will be taking over our walls here at the South Bend Museum of Art, we are creating Science Fiction Family Crests (coats of arms) by creating a slightly different universe in which our families exist.

November 9 – Super Science Fiction Hero Cape Workshop

Bring your whole family as we guide you through the creation of your family’s science fiction spirit animal. Learn to think creatively as a family-unit and collaborate on matching Super Science Fiction Fantasy Hero Capes Designs. Then show off your family’s skills at our science fiction parade after the workshop!

February 16 – TBA

March EggStravaganza – TBA
