festival of banners
The South Bend Museum of Art in association with Downtown South Bend, the City of South Bend, and the IU South Bend Center for a Sustainable Future are pleased to present Festival of Banners 2013: Drip Drop.
Festival of Banners promotes art in the community by bringing art to the public, providing an exciting venue for artists, celebrating community spirit, enhancing the visual environment of downtown streets and highlighting SBMA's artistic talent for residents and visitors. Adults and children over 8 are encouraged to enter.
Each banner will represent a unique interpretation of this year's theme, "Drip Drop," which challenges the artist, “What do YOU see when you think of water?”
Small scale banner designs have been submitted to the SBMA and judged on the adult, teen and youth levels. Artists whose designs were selected paint their banner in the SBMA studios in June and July. The banners will be on display from August to October in Downtown South Bend.
Through a collaborative effort of the SBMA Education
Department, the IU South Bend Center for a Sustainable Future, 4-H Youth
Development and PNC Bank, children throughout the community had
the opportunity to submit a design.
This project is one of the many programs
the museum shares with the community to celebrate the visual arts in
Northern Indiana. The event embraces art from all ages and backgrounds,
giving everyone in the community an opportunity to be a part of the
celebration.
The Festival of Banners is made possible through the support of sponsors Jerry Thoma and Meg Auth.
